MacBook won’t sleep after a repair?

Changed the battery or display and now the lid won’t put your Mac to sleep? Answer five questions to find the next step. No sign-in or payment required.

Your observations

1What changed before the problem started?

Choose the repair closest to when the issue appeared.

2Which Mac and macOS do you use?

Check Apple menu → About This Mac. The current App requires Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later.

3Does the Mac have stable power?

Unexpected shutdowns or operation only while plugged in may need hardware service.

4Does Apple menu → Sleep work?

Save your work before trying. Screen off or paused video alone does not confirm system sleep.

5Does completely closing the lid put it to sleep?

Save your work, disconnect external displays, close it fully, wait about 10 seconds, then reopen. Choose “Not sure” if you cannot confirm.

Before testing
  1. Save your work before each sleep test.
  2. Compare manual sleep with physical lid closure.
  3. Use the App to verify the result on supported Macs.
